week 13 ( 22 / 4 / 2013 - 26 / 4 / 2013)

  Final preparation for presentation

Now the final preparation before the presentation day where engineering students represents their own ideas to develop something in technological style. Taking an ideas and developing it into a definable concept. The project poster also need to provide as a summary for content of operation project. It's good to have a project presentation because it can develop student to be confident as a future engineer.

week 12 (15 / 4 / 2013 - 19 / 3 / 2013)

Troubleshoot Switch Mode Power Supply(SMPS)

Switching Mode Power Supply (SMPS) is a device converts the available unregulated ac or dc input voltage to a regulated dc output voltage. However in case of SMPS with input supply drawn from the ac mains, the input voltage is first rectified and filtered using a capacitor at the rectifier output. The unregulated dc voltage across the capacitor is then fed to a high frequency dc-to-dc converter. During project simulation,  SMPS was suddenly damaged and it cause the AC supply cut off.

Then, troubleshoot it by testing using multimeter to measure the output value, 12VDC. The result was SMPS functioning well. There's no problem with the circuit and operate to convert from AC supply to DC supply.

week 11 (8 / 4 / 2013 - 12 / 4 / 2013)

    Project pre-demo

Just 2 week remaining before the project presentation event. So, the preparation should be ready in order to pass the assessment. Firstly, project pre-demo presentation with supervisor as a initial preparation and can trace the some mistake that may decrease project presentation mark. Fortunately, project supervisor  has satisfied without any doubt. Just some project content need to touch up and decorate the project to be more creative.

week 10 ( 1 / 4 / 2013 - 5 / 4 / 2013 )

Meeting with supervisor

During this week, arrange a schedule with my project supervisor to discuss and update about my project result. Fortunately, my project has already operate according to project block diagram. My project supervisor satisfied on my project work.Set an another appointment with supervisor next week to demonstrate my project before project presentation day.
Supervisor reminds about Final Year Project 2 assessment. All the assessment should be completed   to pass this subject. So, the Final Year Project assessment include logbook, project report, project presentation and progress report.

Week 9 ( 25 / 3 / 2013 - 29 / 3 / 2013 )

Relay circuit

A relay circuit is typically a smaller switch or device which drives (opens/closes) an electric switch that is capable of carrying much larger current amounts. Or a circuit which operates the coil or electronic actuator from one source and uses a separate power source to drive an isolated device.

week 8 ( 18/3/2013 - 22/3/2013 )

Test Circuit

After hardware and software assembled, the next project progress is to test the circuits either well-functioned or not. Based on my project block diagram, the inputs which is voltage and temperature sensors will continuously monitor its value within the range. To ensure the value within the range, the inputs sends a signal to Programmable Interface Controller (PIC) to process until it detects the value is over range. Then, it converts from digital to analogue using MAX232 and GSM transmits the signal and receive by specified person.
So, the result that i get was completely worked and there is minor error happens related with GSM modem initial code. It has been solved and it can proceed to the next project progress.

week 7 (11/8/2013 - 15/3/2013 )

Program code

Computer program is a sequence of instructions written to perform a specified task with a computer. A computer requires programs to function, typically executing the program's instructions in a central processor. This weekly progress, i needs to build a program code for PIC (16F877A) to simulate and operate my hardware part successfully.

week 6 ( 4/3/2013 - 8/3/2013 )

Core circuit

The core circuit is the most important in this project because it act as a control panel to operate power distribution monitoring system. This circuit is the main part that contains Programmable Interface Circuit (PIC) to control the whole project operation. It collects data in volt and celcius to secure the condition of cable in distribution system.

The figure above shows the temporary main core circuit.

Week 5 ( 25/2/2013 - 1/3/2013 )

Temperature sensor

As i mentioned before, the input in my project consists a voltage sensor and temperature sensor. The voltage sensor was completely constructed to monitor the range of voltage data either undervoltage or overvoltage. Unfortunately, the voltage sensor operated in DC voltage which is 12 volt. So, the temperature sensor is a device that can monitor the temperature data in power distribution system. By precisely amplifying the voltage change, it is easy to generate an analog signal that is directly proportional to temperature.

Week 4 ( 18/2/2013 - 22/2/2013)

Voltage sensor

Input is the term denoting either an entrance or changes which are inserted into a system and which  activate or modify the process. So, the purpose of my project is to monitor the performance of voltage and temperature in power distribution system. The proposed project input will be a voltage sensor and temperature sensor as a device to monitor the power distribution system. My focus is to construct a voltage sensor and its functionality. The voltage sensor measures the differential voltage between the input terminals and outputs the difference proportionally.

Week 3 ( 11/2/2013 - 15/2/2013)

Previous semester, I am really grateful for successfully finished my Final Year Project 1 assessment within 14 weeks. It consists my generate idea in engineering courses and converts into concept that can implement and develop in my project. So, Final Year Project 2 assessment for this semester must be continue to complete my study. This semester assessment is more challenging to achieve my target. I need to ensure the hardware and software part before week 13.
Within 14 weeks, i need to construct 4 circuit that consists voltage sensor, temperature sensor, core circuit and interface circuit (MAX 232) . Then, i needs to build a program code for controlling part. Basically, i use an assembly languages because it's easy t understand their instructions. The program code should test first to troubleshoot any possibility errors may occur. The project progress needs to complete by weeks
